Webinar "The Teacher's Social and Emotional Learning" (module 5)

Here is the last module of my webinar! Here I was given to watch a video of Angela Lee Duckworth - Grit: The passion and perseverance. She is saying that growth mindset is a great idea for building grit. But we need more. We need to take our best ideas, our strongest intuitions, and we need to test them. We need to measure whether we've been successful, and we have to be willing to fail. To be wrong, to start over again with lessons learned. In other words, we need to be gritty about getting our kids grittier. I also had few books to read: Palmer "The Heart of a Teacher" and Dewey John "My pedagogical creed"

In the 3rd module I was given a film to watch. It is 2012 academy award nominee - best foreign film "MONSIEUR LAZHAR". The story is set in Montreal, where the beloved teacher of Year 6 class has abruptly passed away. Having learned of the incident in the newspaper, Bachir Lazhar (Fellag), a 55 year old Algerian immigrant, makes his way  to the school and offers his services as a substitute teacher. He's in the right place at the right time, and is quickly hired to fill in.

In the 2nd module I watched a NYU sociologist, Dr. Pedro Noguera, from his unique perspective. At the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions as well as demographic trends in local, regional, and global context. And if that's all not enough I could put my thoughts down and write about the preoccupations and observations offered there about what teaching does to teachers. And in some ways even more importantly, what are the ways to side step these social and emotional pitfalls? I was also given a video of Sharon Horesh Bergquist "How stress affects your body". Our hard-wired stress response is designed to give us the quick burst of heightened alertness and energy needed to perform our best. But stress isn't all good. When activated too long or too often, stress can damage virtually every part of our body. Sharon Horesh Bergquist gives us a look at what goes on inside our body when we are chronically stressed. https://youtu.be/v-t1Z5-oPt...

Hi guys! Today I started my 1st webinar related to the topic "The Teacher's Social and Emotional life". This first module I began by taking a look  at the teachers' own social and emotional learning. A teacher must now the students as a person. And this means that the teacher must strive for self-knowledge and understanding. Teachers nee to understand themselves, especially their own social and emotional terrain. Deeper teacher self-understanding, facilitates and enhances deeper students relations. Modules 1 & 2 focus on the teacher's well-being, and teaching and education as transformation. In module 3, we examine sadness and despair in teaching. Module 4 deals with joy, passion, and enjoyment in teaching. And finally, module 5 discusses grit and wholeness in teaching.

We are living in a world of technologies now and can't remember our life being different. We got acquainted with lights and sound and explored their characteristics which helped us to use them effectively. The radio, the TV, the telephone was invented and enabled us to get in touch with each other, learn about what is happening in our native city and all over the world. The humanity never stopped on the way to unexplored places and even planets! Dear teachers, here are handouts for you related to the topic "Science and technology" with the level B2.
